You Ain't Much if You Ain't Dutch

That's it Bud Selig, you got me. I love the World Baseball Classic. And it isn't just because the USA is fantastic (thanks in large part to new National Adam Dunn). And it isn't just because it gives me an excuse to watch Asian baseball at 5 am when I am not working. No, it is because of The Netherlands pulling off the two biggest upsets in international baseball history... within a week. Those fighting Dutch beat the All-Star roster of the Dominican Republic this past weekend, and tonight beat them 2-1 in 11 innings to eliminate the DR from the WBC. It was a great, exciting game. It was a team with only two recognizable players, Randall Simon and Sir Sidney Ponson. And when they pulled off their second upset to advance to Miami and the second round, they celebrated like they had just won the Series. They dog-piled on each others. They ran aroundthe field. Players were crying. It was beautiful. So there you are Commissioner Selig. Thanks to those plucky Dutch, I am hooked on the WBC.
