A Real American Comes to the NFL

It was the story of the 2008 NFL Draft. Army safety Caleb Campbell was drafted in the 7th Round by the Detroit Lions, and thought that he would be able to serve his commitment to the Army domestically. Instead, the Army balked at their policy and forced Campbell to withdraw from the Lions and serve his time overseas, though the Lions promised they would be there for him when he was finished. Now that his commitment is over, the Lions have kept their promise and signed Campbell to a contract. This is simply fantastic. I know that, if Campbell makes the team, I will have a soft spot in my heart for the Lions. They stuck to their word. If only the US Army had too.

  1. Great story Jim. I hope that Campbell makes it.

Speaking of Campbells, your former QB signed with the Raiders which is a great opportunity for him to succeed. Oakland finally decided to cut their losses and CUT DeMarcus Russell, a lazy primadonna who was late for practices, was out of shape, and who, flat out, couldn't play in the pros. Good luck to Campbell,,,,,except when he plays the Giants.

I guess that the first round exit of the Washington Capitals is an issue not to be discussed in your house.

Mets were on a roll but got slapped around in Philly over the weekend. Strange, but I liked our chances for winning 2 out of three after John Niese, a young guy, shut them down on Friday but they came back and pounded both Pelfrey AND Santana. Oh well, Reds are next and it's a long season.
