Usually, I can give full previews of teams and seasons off the top of my head. I can accurately pick playoff teams in the NFL before the season at least 85% of the time. Not the same for baseball. Oh sure, it is easy to say that the Red Soxs and Yankees will be pretty good, and that one of them will make the playoffs. But what about all the other teams in the playoff races? Who is going to be this year's Tampa Bay Rays? Who will battle for the wild card? Will the Mets choke again? I don't know the answers. The season is too long to make bold predictions like that in April. So here are the only predictions I will make for the 2009 Major League Baseball season:
- The Washington Nationals will not lose 100 games. However, they will not win 80, and will probably finish 5th in the NL East yet again.
- The Baltimore Orioles are a stable young team with great offensive weapons. They will still finish in fourth behind the two Big Spenders and those pesky Rays.
- The Padres and Pirates will not be contenders, but will pull off some nice upsets.
- Albert Pujols will finish no lower than 3rd in NL MVP voting, and may win it.
- The NL Central will have the most teams in their Division race for the longest amount of time.
- The Cubs will win the World Series.... maybe....
- At least one more big name player will be exposed for using steroids.
Enjoy!
