Esteban Ochocinco
Chad Johnson, aka Chad Ochocinco, now has a new alias. Esteban Ochocinco, his soccer-loving kicker alter-ego. Why did this come up? Well, the man kicked an extra point in the Bengals preseason win over the Patriots yesterday. Check it out here. Right down the middle. As if that wasn't enough, he also handled the kickoff duties right after. Fantastic.

Boswell on Strasburg
Thomas Boswell is rapidly becoming a must-read for me. His columns dealing with the Strasburg situation have been fantastic. Here is his latest, and it doesn't disappoint.
Paulus Starting
Greg Paulus is officially the starting QB for my Syracuse Orange. Not only could this be the best decision for on-field production, it is also a great PR move. Paulus will draw interest from his hometown crowd, and they should see great attendance for the opener against Minnesota on September 5th. If he plays well, I take back everything I have ever said about him. GO ORANGE!

We are absolutely thrilled to announce that we have signed Major League Baseball's 2009 Number One draft choice, Stephen Strasburg to a long-term contract. Stephen, as we are sure you know, has been widely touted as one of the best big league pitching prospects to be draft eligible in years. The big, 6-4, 220-lb. right-hander, was a consensus All-American and College Player of the Year while leading San Diego State to its first NCAA Regional berth since 1992, posting a 13-1 record with a 1.32 ERA, and averaging 16.1 strikeouts per nine innings. Last summer he also pitched for Team USA in the Beijing Summer Olympics, becoming the first collegiate member of that team since professional players were permitted to participate in the games.
Stephen Strasburg is a special talent with unlimited potential. He will be joining our other MLB Top 10 draft choice for 2009, pitcher Drew Storen, as the newest member of what we believe is one of the most interesting, and deepest staffs of young pitching prospects in all of baseball. John Lannan, Jordan Zimmermann, Craig Stammen, J.D. Martin, Ross Detwiler, Garrett Mock, Collin Balester, Shairon Martis, Sean Burnett, Tyler Clippard and now Strasburg and Storen, along with a group of other young minor league talents, promise to represent an intimidating rotation for the Nationals for years to come.

GOT HIM
The Nationals actually did it. At what had to be 11:59.59 PM, the Nats signed #1 pick Stephen Strasburg to a 4 year- $15.7 million contract. This also includes a signing bonus, reports have it at either $7.5 or $15 million, that will be easily made up by the attendance that Strasburg brings. My hats off to the Lerner's for spending money but not breaking the bank, Stan Kasten for helping to get this once-bare cupboard back on track and Mike Rizzo for getting the deal sealed. Now, Rizzo should be appointed the new GM, removing the interim tag from his name. The Nyjer Morgan deal, coupled with Strasburg's signing, has the Nats headed in the right direction. Let' hope Stephen can come in and gel with the teammates that he started to piss off when he was holding out. And let's hope that his arm can last the duration of this contract... GO NATS!
